Veg Masala Khichadi

Ingredients

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 1 cup chana daal
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafetida
  • 5- 6 cup water

For veg masala

  • 100 grams green peas
  • 50 grams carrot cut into small pieces
  • 100 grams cauliflower cut into small pieces
  • 50 grams potato peeled and cut into small pieces
  • 1 medium onion sliced
  • 1 pieces medium tomato cut into
  • 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 1/2 cumin seeds
  • 1/2 cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chilly powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 garam masala

For tempering

  • 2 tablespoon ghee clarified butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 dried red chilly

Instructions

  1. In a pressure cooker take 4 cups of water add chana dal, salt, asafetida and turmeric. Pressure cook it till 3 whistles.
  2. Meanwhile, in a pan add oil, cumin and sliced onions and sauté it for 6-7 minutes. Now add all the vegetables except peas and cook it for another 10 minutes.
  3. Add all the powdered spices and 1/2 cup of water cover and cook it on low flame for few more minutes. Keep aside.
  4. Now add rice in cooked dal and again pressure cook it till 2 whistles.
  5. After that add cooked vegetables in it and temper it with clarified butter, cumin and chilly.
  6. Serve it hot.
